Polar Bear Sculpture
This sculpture was created for the Assiniboine Park Zoo in Manitoba. This is a common pose when polar bears are hunting and looking into breathing holes located in the ice - watch out seals and well...anything coming up for air. I love commissions for learning and education exhibits because of the specific requirements which informs the work. I would never have thought of putting a bear in this pose.
Black Bear Sculpture
This is a fun blast from the past. I sculpted this bear back in 2007. It was the first large sculpture I made that was not a commission. I just wanted to sculpt a black bear catching a fish on a rock. No heavy concept just hey - lets sculpt a bear. It sat in my studio for a few years before finding it's home in West Vancouver. I haven't made an impulse sculpture since!
