Granite Rock Retaining Wall

The Before. A 200’ long, 11’ high concrete parkade wall

Before and after, Granite Retaining Wall

This is the before, a 200’long, 11’ high concrete parkade wall.  The developers wanted the wall to blend in with the natural surroundings and match the existing granite seen here bottom left.  The concept was to have the building look as if it were resting on existing solid granite.

The After. A natural granite rock face

This is the after, a 200’ long, 11’ high man-made granite rock wall.  The parkade wall has disappeared and the new rock wall enhances the architecture in this natural rural location.  The project is currently under construction and I will be posting more pics once the building and landscaping is completed.

20’ linear feet of the 200’ wall

From start to finish the rock wall took 27 days to complete.  This wall was built using shotcrete and the concrete shell ranges in thickness of 4-8”.  The entire wall was hand carved and painted onsite for a custom and seamless install.  The rock extends up to 5’ off the existing concrete wall to provide a natural contour and break the straight run of 220’.  In the artificial rock work industry this wall is considered to be ‘high detail’ due to the depth off the wall, the overall design, the surface texture and the high realism paint finish.
